Major Lee was a World War II veteran and was a B-24 pilot.ย The B-24, whose nickname was the Liberator, was a four engine heavy bomber.ย It had four 1,200 horsepower Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp radial engines and generally carried a crew of ten.ย The B-24 had a slightly greater range, bomb load and top speed than the B-17.
