Program Description

Designed specifically for UCA students, this immersive 4-week program pairs hands-on professional development with rich cultural immersion. You鈥檒l earn a global credential, sharpen your language skills, and explore some of the world’s most breathtaking ancient wonders.
Destination Highlights:
- Heart of the Inca Empire: Live and study in Cusco, Peru鈥攁 vibrant high-altitude city rich in history, cobblestone streets, and stunning indigenous culture.
- Cultural Immersion: Experience daily life in Peru firsthand through an authentic local homestay, offering an unparalleled environment to practice Spanish naturally.
- Iconic Landmarks: Access optional excursions to world-renowned heritage sites, including Machu Picchu, the historic fortress of Saqsaywaman, and the sacred temple of Qorikancha.
Program Highlights & Activities:
- Comprehensive TESOL Certification: Complete a rigorous 4-week, 150-hour Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at M谩ximo Nivel鈥檚 Cusco campus.
- Practical Classroom Experience: Develop effective English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching strategies through a balanced mix of interactive classroom instruction, teaching observations, coursework, and practical teaching experience.
- Weekly Spanish Instruction: Enhance your global communication skills with structured weekly Spanish lessons tailored to support your daily immersion and homestay interactions.

Dr. Suzanne Johnston
Assistant Professor of French
Dr. Johnston has served as UCA鈥檚 Director of Modern Languages Teacher Preparation Programs since 2017 and coordinates the K-12 ESL Endorsement program. With expertise in Spanish, second language acquisition, and language teaching, she prepares students for careers in TESOL and modern language education. Dr. Johnston has lived in Spain, traveled throughout Western Europe, and visited the M谩ximo Nivel site in Peru.
