Simon Tam of The Slants Joins the School of Communication Oct. 7-8

Simon听Tam听– author, musician and self-described “troublemaker” – will be an Artist-in-Residence welcomed by the School of Communication October 7-8. He’ll be speaking (and performing songs) about communication as activism, discrimination against Asian Americans during the pandemic, and his landmark Supreme Court case defending the right of his band to appropriate a term long used听to discriminate against them.听
Simon听will be here in-person AND we will live stream all of his events.听We hope you’ll attend in the way that you are comfortable.
We especially encourage you to check out听Slanted: How an Asian American Troublemaker Took on the Supreme Court,听at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7.听It will be a mix of music and storytelling that should be really special.

Thursday, October 8
  • 12:15-1:30 p.m. – Multicultural Public Relations talk: Asian American discrimination in the pandemic, Stanley Russ 103
  • 1:40-2:30 p.m. – Meeting with Student Organizations, sponsored by the UCA Chapter of the NAACP, McCastlain Ballroom
Simon’s visit is part of our 2020 Communication Week, which kicks off with our alumni panel on Tuesday during x-period. The alumni panel will be on Zoom听.
