Beta Alpha Psi Diversity Equity Inclusion Scholarship

Beta Alpha Psi have over 300 chapters in the US and service many communities. In an effort to expand representation in these communities, the AICPA Foundation has approved BAP for a grant to help us to broaden our membership inclusion of underrepresented minority students. For the 2022-2023 year, recipients of this scholarship will receive $75 for the one-time BAP international membership fee. Applicants must be eligible to join Beta Alpha Psi by meeting these requirements:

• Are members of underrepresented racial or ethnic groups
• Majoring in accounting, finance, business analytics, or information systems
• Obtained an overall GPA of 3.0

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners invites you to apply for the 2022-2023 Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to students worldwide who have an interest in pursuing an anti-fraud career. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university with a declared major or minor in accounting, business administration, finance, criminal justice or a comparable anti-fraud discipline. Students must be enrolled through 2023 and at least be in the second half of their sophomore year when they apply to be eligible.  To apply:  . More than 300 scholarship recipients gathered at the Farris Center for the annual scholarship reception at the 51ÇŕÂĄ Sept. 30 hosted by the UCA Foundation.

The theme for the evening “Celebrating 40 Years” commemorated the Foundation’s successes since its 1981 inception under former UCA President Jeff Farris. The event provided an opportunity for students to connect with scholarship donors and share stories.

President Davis told donors their gifts provide an enormous impact on students like Savannah Conly, who is a junior marketing major in the College of Business. Conly received the Granger and Jan Davis Emerging Leaders Scholarship.

“When I received this scholarship, It meant the world to me because I felt seen,” Conly said. “I felt like all my behind-the-scenes work was seen. Receiving this recognition fueled my motivation to keep working hard and to push myself toward my dreams, even on hard days.”

Conversation centered on hopes for the future on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, as UCA senior Richard Casto was awarded the Terri Hayes-Winstead Memorial Scholarship. Terri’s sister, Tammi Van Cleave, and Tammi’s employer, , team up each year to award the scholarship to a College of Business student in the Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) program who demonstrates potential for the industry and financial need to fund continued education.

Terri’s son Dylan, daughter Hana, mother Theresa, and sister Tammi were on hand to present the scholarship, along with Staci Shearon of the (PIA) and UCA Center for Insurance and Risk Management Director Cynthia Burleson. Richard smiled widely as he received the award.

The scholarship is given in memory of Terri Hayes-Winstead, who may have started her insurance career later in life but definitely made her mark nonetheless. After dedicating her time solely to being a mother, Terri began her career an as office manager handling day-to-day non-insurance activities, but she realized quickly that she wanted to learn more and do more. Terri worked hard to learn about insurance and underwriting, and she learned fast. She gave it her all and enjoyed making a successful career for herself.

“Terri’s biggest asset was her personality and desire to help others; in her ten years as an Underwriter she built undeniable bonds with the agents that she worked with, and they loved her,” said her sister Tammi. “Terri left us way too soon and is missed by many.”

This year’s recipient, Richard Casto, is a senior majoring in insurance and risk management. He is a first generation college student working to provide the funds for school while helping his mom in a single parent household. Richard is an excellent student and has worked hard to build his GPA to a 3.176. He maintains a 4.0 GPA in his major and has shown himself to be an excellent student.

Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas released a post saying, “[We are] excited to present the Terri Hayes-Winstead Memorial Scholarship to Richard Casto with the UCA Insurance and Risk Management program. Thank you Scottish American of Arkansas, Tammi Hayes VanCleave, Hana McCown, and Hayes family for your gracious gift in honor of Terri and the next generation of insurance professionals!”

Note: Scholarships are distributed half in the fall semester and half in the spring semester. If you received the first half of a scholarship in spring 2021, you will automatically receive the second half of the scholarship this semester as long as you still qualify. There is no need to reapply.
